On Friday we celebrated the Feast of St Mary of the Cross
MacKillop, the co-founder of the Josephite Sisters, Australia's
first saint and a wonderful role model for living a Christian life
dedicated to others. Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop along with
St Joseph are our patron saints here at St Joey's, who inspire us
through their lives and wisdom to live each day the way Jesus
asked us to live. "Never see a need without doing something
about it", is one of Mary MacKillop's sayings. Each of us is
encouraged to strive in our everyday lives to follow in the
footsteps of Mary MacKillop. A Prayer card will be sent home
today with the eldest in each family. Happy Mary MacKillop Day
St Joey's.
Today we also have given thanks for 70 years of education here at
St Joseph’s Tobruk Memorial. We acknowledge the work of all
who have been part of the school community since its beginning,
Fr Steele, a Rat of Tobruk, the Sisters of St Joseph, past and
present staff, and the many students and families that have and
continue to walk together with Courage, Faith and Love. Here at
St Joey’s, we are creating a community where all are welcome,
and diversity is a gift we share. To mark this special milestone,
every student and teacher has creatively contributed to a school
prayer cloth. We have also had a day of special activities of craft,
games, sports and cooking and a sausage sizzle to mark this
special year. A very big thank you to our parent Joey’s
Engagement Team for cooking and serving our sausages.
