commissioned by Brisbane Catholic Education, St Joseph's Tobruk Memorial School (2024)
This beautiful artwork tells the story of St Joseph’s Tobruk Memorial School.
It reflects the deep foundations of Beenleigh, built on the clay lands of Gugingin Country.
At the heart of the artwork is Karul – the story of everything.
Karul represents the importance of unity and inclusion. It shares the values of Saint Mary MacKillop and her strong Christian faith, highlighting the significance of family, community, parents, children, teachers, and staff. Everyone is honoured as part of the whole that makes St Joseph’s what it is today.
The artwork also remembers the history of the war memorial and looks to the future of our children. It is built on the foundation of love, faith, courage, resilience, and hope.
This is Karul.
