“Karul", original artwork by Waylene Currie,
commissioned by Brisbane Catholic Education , St Joseph's Tobruk Memorial School (2024)

This beautiful artwork depicts the story of St joseph’s Tobruk Memorial School, it speaks on the very foundations built upon Beenleigh, the country made of clay on Gugingin Country.

Karul is the story of everything and the importance of the whole in being inclusive. It tells the story of Saint Mary Mackillop and everything she believed; in Christian faith. Its speaks of family, community, parents, children, teachers and staff, honouring everyone as whole that makes St Joseph’s what it is today. It also speaks on the history of the war memorial and the focus for our children's future built upon the foundation of love, faith , courage, resilience and hope and this is Karul.
